Things to know before you go to the Maldives

The best time to visit the Maldives

The Maldives is a popular tropical destination known for its stunning coral reefs, clear turquoise waters, and overwater bungalows.

The best time to visit the Maldives depends on what activities you plan to do.

The high season runs from December to March, when the Maldives experience dry, sunny weather, ideal for those looking to enjoy water activities such as snorkeling and diving. However, hotel prices are at their highest at this time.

April and May is our favorite time to visit as this is the shoulder season. You can still enjoy fairly dry weather but avoid the high-season crowds and prices. For those looking for luxurious holidays for couples, this is a great time to visit as you can splurge on those high-end hotels without the high season price tag.

Monsoon season runs from June to October, so avoid this time if you can. There is a higher chance of rainfall and occasional storms.

Diving with dolphins and at the remains of sunken ships

Diving in the Maldives is a magnet that attracts thousands of divers from all over the world. And beginners after several dives and for “scuba diving you can’t pull out.” And all because such a variety of the underwater world is not found everywhere.

In the Maldives, you can take an underwater walk along picturesque reefs with white corals, labyrinths, caves, and grottoes.

Feel like an explorer and go to study sunken ships. By the way, there are a lot of them here. Some ships sank back in the nineteenth century.

Whaleshark in the Maldives

Swimming with whale sharks

To begin, it is important to understand that whale sharks are harmless, slow-moving, filtered-feeding sharks that graze on plankton in the water.

They are known as the biggest fish in the water since they may grow to be up to 12 meters long! Swimming, snorkeling, or diving next to a whale shark – one of the ocean’s most spectacular creatures – is one of the most thrilling encounters in the region.

Despite their giant size, they consume plankton and tiny fish, therefore you will never be attacked by one.

Don’t worry if you’re wondering how to recognize a whale shark. Because of their massive size, you’ll be able to see them right away. Take note of these gentle giants’ white-spotted coloring.

Enjoy the Maldives from a bird’s eye view

There are not so many sightseeing routes and attractions in the Maldives, so one of the most important entertainment is a helicopter ride over the islands and atolls of the Maldives.

Go fishing

Of course, you can always order a dish of fish and seafood in a restaurant, or you can have dinner with fish caught on your own (this is 300 times tastier).

In the Maldives, morning, afternoon, and night fishing trips are arranged, on wooden boats and large yachts, group, and individual – in general, for every taste. It doesn’t matter if you catch anything, you will be treated to fresh grilled fish anyway.

Perhaps enjoy this experience with older children or as a romantic meal with your partner to really make the most out of it.

Get closer to the stars

To admire the starry sky over the Maldives, to observe the movement of comets, to examine craters on the Moon – all this can be done at the only observatory in the Maldives on the island of Kunfunadhoo. The astronomer’s help is attached, as well as modern equipment.

Night walks outside the observatory will also bring unreal pleasure. Just raise your head to the sky and be sure to make a wish. The sky over the Maldives is magical – everything will come true.

To dance Bodubera

Boduberu is an incendiary dance to the beat of drums, which was brought to the Maldives about 10 centuries ago, and during this time it has become a real tradition.

About 20 people participate in the performance of Boduberu, at least 3-5 of them are drummers. Mostly men dance, but everyone is invited to dance.

Boduberu is a very rhythmic dance, where every knock is accompanied by movements, and it can often be observed in bars on the ocean. And the longer you dance, the more you feel complete relaxation.

The Maldives is a breathtaking destination to visit and makes for a romantic destination to visit in the world but also a great option for those wanting a unique experience with family. These fun things to do in Maldives with your family will keep you and your family busy during your visit.
