Cancun Travel Tips

Best time to visit Cancun

Our first Cancun travel tips is the most important thing you need to know before you plan any trip to Mexico. The best time to visit Cancun is from December to April when the climate isn’t too hot and you will enjoy relatively clear warm days. You can still enjoy a swim in the sea but can also comfortably see the sights too.

The rainy season runs from late august to November, so avoid this time if possible, although deals can be found at this time too, especially at the all-inclusive resorts. However, be aware that this is hurricane season too.

To get the best experience without spending too much, aim to video in April, November or the first week of December, this is outside of the typical high season so prices aren’t too high but you are also avoiding the rainy periods too.

Things to know before you go to Mexico

Airport transfers in Cancun

Getting around Cancun

Cancun has plenty of public buses that can get you around most areas of the city. Many buses will stop near the popular hotel areas and run throughout the take, making it easy to get around.

Where to stay in Cancun

Cancun has some amazing all-inclusive resorts, and if you are looking to relax, unwind and be near a gorgeous beach, then treat yourself to one of the luxury resorts along the beach. Alternatively, if you are traveling on a budget, you could get a smaller, nice hotel in the downtown area, ideal for those looking to explore the sights.

The local food

The hotel zone does offer plenty of food options but the Mexican cuisine in most resorts isn’t great. Instead, head to Cancun City Centre and take a local food tour to really experience the authentic, delicious Mexican cuisine.

What to pack in Cancun

As with most beach vacations, you will need the essentials like swimwear, sun hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Cancun can be humid, so if you are prone to frizzy hair then bring something along to help.

You could choose to bring a cooling tower if you plan on doing a lot of sightseeing or a waterproof phone case if you want to take some day trips out onto the waters. You could also choose to bring some activated charcoal, ideal if you can get some upset stomachs, and as always, make sure to book your travel insurance.
