The construction took almost a century, and city leaders at the time had the vision of “building the greatest and most spectacular Cathedral that others will think us insane.” 

San Lorenzo El Escorial

The magnificent Royal Monastery “El Escorial” is about 50 minutes north of Madrid. San Lorenzo is only a short rail or vehicle trip away from Madrid. King Philip II gave the order to build this monastery to celebrate the victory over France in the Battle of San Quentin in 1557. Even nowadays, it was a burial site for all of Spain’s monarchs. You wouldn´t understand its magnificence until you see it in person. If you are staying in Madrid, the trip is worth it. Historic Seville

The romantic charm of this lovely Andalusian city is palpable. Outdoor cafés line cobblestone walkways during the day while horse-drawn carriages meander through pastel-colored plazas.
