New Orleans Travel Tips: A Super Bowl Travel Guide (2025)

These New Orleans Travel Tips will help you prepare for your Superbowl travel! From where to stay to pre-game drinks, we cover it all.

The Super Bowl has earned itself a reputation as the “Greatest Show on Earth”. Justifiably, some would say, because the Super Bowl is not just a sports event, but also a cultural event too that needs to be on your USA bucket list.

This final game in the NFL calendar combines sports with entertainment and adds a heavy topping of glitz and glam. World-class musicians take the stage in the halftime show and entertain the crowd and the viewers at home while the teams rest.

Of course, getting hold of Super Bowl tickets isn’t easy. If you do, then you need to plan well ahead because the Super Bowl host location will be busy that week. Don’t do anything you need to at the last minute. Below is a look at who the favorites to be playing at the Super Bowl and what you need to know if you’re going to travel to the game.

The Road to the Super Bowl

The Detroit Lions had been the favourites to lift the Lombardi Trophy, but a 45-31 loss to the Washington Commanders put them out of the running. The upset has created a new favourite: the Philadelphia Eagles at +180 on the betting lines. They’ll face the Commanders in the Championship game.

Many are surprised the Chiefs aren’t the new favourites. The Kansas City side is chasing their third consecutive Super Bowl win, but first, they must get past the Buffalo Bills to fight for the Lombardi Trophy.

All of this means that if you are into placing Super Bowl prop bets, Lions players such as Jahmyr Gibbs have dropped out of the anytime touchdown odds and other props betting odds. Eagles running back Saquon Barkley now leads the favourites as the anytime touchdown scorer.

He’s moved from around +600 on the betting lines to +130. Teammate and quarterback Josh Allen moved up to +170. Travis Kelce, Chiefs tight end, has also enjoyed a shift in odds up to +300 from +450.

Preparing for a trip to the Super Bowl

The big game takes place on February 9 at the Caesars Superdome, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The stadium is the home of the New Orleans Saints and sits in the heart of the New Orleans Central Business District.

When Hurricane Katrina hit the city in 2005, many thought it was all over for the Super Dome. Instead, the city rebuilt the stadium, which has become a symbol of New Orleans’ strength of resolve and enduring spirit.

French Market in New Orleans

Louisiana Culture Festival

New Orleans itself is home to amazing attractions and things to do before or during Super Bowl weekend depending on when you arrive.

On February 7 and 8, you can visit the Louisiana Culture Festival at the French Market, where you can witness storytelling, cooking, dance demonstrations and more as the festival highlights the different cultures in Louisiana.

Guy’s Flavortown Tailgate

If you want to get some food on game day and soak up some atmosphere before heading into the stadium, grab a ticket for Guy’s Flavortown Tailgate. This game day food festival offers more than 25 different culinary experiences. You don’t need to have a Super Bowl ticket to take part.

Things to Know Before you go to New Orleans

Places to stay in New Orleans

New Orleans has some fabulous neighborhoods to stay in, all with a character of their own.

The French Quarter

The French Quarter is New Orleans’s oldest, most famous neighbourhood by far and provides you with easy access to other neighbourhoods. It’s a lively neighbourhood, but also suitable for families and you’ll have access to several museums, not to mention have views of the Mississippi. If you want to tick off many of your New Orleans bucket list attractions off, this is the area to stay.

Where to stay in New Orleans

Marigny/Bywater

This Marigny/Bywater neighbourhood is trendy and especially popular with younger crowds. Accommodation-wise, it’s all about the inns and the bed and breakfasts, as hotels haven’t really made their mark on the place yet.

You’ll find plenty of coffee shops, art galleries and record stores here. Frenchmen Street is the epicentre and is packed with live music venues. There you’ll hear anything from blues, jazz and reggae to rock and even brass band!

How to get around New Orleans

How to get around New Orleans

The NFL and the New Orleans are taking their time to release information on travel to the game, as they will be updating the regional transportation with special arrangements for Super Bowl week. Normally, it’s possible to get to the venue by RTA bus, by Lyft or Uber or by taxi.

If you’re hiring a car to do a little tourism, it’s possible to park at the stadium on game day, but you’ll need to apply for a permit. Ideally, it’s best to avoid driving to the Super Bowl stadium, if you can, because it gets so busy on game day.

Super Bowl LIX is going to be an awesome affair as always. The Eagles and the Chiefs are the favourites to be going head-to-head on the big day, but the NFL has a habit of surprising people, so don’t write off either the Bills or the Commanders yet. Make sure you’re there and enjoy the game.
