Canada is a huge country – as a result, the landscapes are as varied as they come. It is the perfect place to road trip, and here, we share the best places to visit in Canada on your next trip.
While many people think of taking the famous Route 66 in the Southwest USA, don’t ignore an amazing road trip that can be had in Canada.
The Trans Canada Highway runs from Vancouver British Columbia on the Pacific coast all the way to St John Newfoundland on the Atlantic.
As you can imagine there are some wonderful things to see along the way.
Here are a few can’t miss places to check out.
Though it isn’t on the Trans Canada, I think it is the ideal place to begin the road trip. Most people land in Toronto so you can pick up a rental car at the Toronto airport and start your journey there.
As one of the world’s greatest natural wonders, the Falls themselves are spectacular enough that you don’t need to do anything else while there. However, there are some interesting things to see and do there like the funniest wax museum in the world or the whirlpool jet boats.
Once you’re done there you can head up to the highway and get the road trip started proper.
Assiniboine Zoo in Manitoba
The prairies might not offer much as far as dramatic landscapes go, but near Winnipeg, you can have a once in a lifetime experience.
Check out the zoo there with an underwater tunnel where you can watch polar bears swim over your head.
If you’re travelling with kids and you can drag yourself away from the polar bear tunnel then they will surely enjoy the miniature steam train that runs around the zoo grounds.
Ghost Town in Saskatchewan
You don’t have to go to Arizona to see an Old West-style actual ghost town. In Saskatchewan, there is the area of Cypress Hills where there is a town that is exactly as the settlers lived in many years ago.
Stay the night and eat in an actual Chuck Wagon, listen to live music and enjoy unspoiled nature under the stars.
Rocky Mountains of Alberta
This is surely going to be the most memorable stretch of the road trip as it passes through the stunning landscape of the Canadian Rockies.
Take your time as there is a lot to see and do in this area. One of the most popular things to do is to see the Dinosaur Provincial Park.
There is also plenty of hiking around the area with difficulty ranging from easy for beginners to advanced for experts.
For some great cuisine, Calgary is right there so take a city break for some good eats after a day in nature.
Sea to Sky Highway British Columbia
One of the most scenic drives in the world is the last stretch of highway that brings you to the edge of British Columbia.
This legendary route brings you from the coast of Vancouver to the mountain resort of Whistler and shouldn’t be missed.
Enjoy some fresh seafood at the beginning of the route and finish with some venison at the end!
