At Creative Travel Guide, we are excited to share a guest post from Lesley at Freedom56Travel about the best romantic things to do in Vancouver.
I’m sure every city in the world has romantic things to do. Photos of couples on romantic gondola rides in Venice are as common as memes of couples holding hands while walking on a moonlit beach.
But, have you ever taken a romantic stroll 4 kilometres out into the Pacific Ocean? How about ice skating on top of the law courts building?
Vancouver has some of the most unique romantic things to do that you can’t find anywhere else!
Iona Beach Regional Park
Located just south of Vancouver, Iona Beach Regional Park is the home of one of the most romantic walks in Vancouver.
Iona Jetty is a 4-kilometre long jetty that juts out into the Straight of Georgia, right into the Pacific Ocean. The walk is flat and you can often see wildlife and interesting sea creatures. Once you get a few kilometres out, the shoreline becomes indistinct and you can almost believe you’re in the middle of nowhere, walking hand-in-hand with your sweetheart; just the two of you against the wild currents of the open ocean.
You can walk all the way to the end of the jetty to the very tip and pretend you’re Rose & Jack on the Titanic. It might be just as windy as it was for them on the prow of the ship!
Dress warmly in layers and bring water – it’s a long walk back to dry ground.
Cooking Class at the Dirty Apron
What better way to get to know your partner than to see how they fare in the kitchen?
The Dirty Apron Cooking School offers a cooking class, especially for couples. “It Takes Two” is their original couples’ class for those that like to get their hands a little dirty. Bring some sexy back to the kitchen and stay in for dinner!
In this class, you receive expert guided instruction to make a decadent 3-course meal for two. A variety of classes are available but my favourite is the Ocean-inspired class wherein together you learn how to prepare a live one-pound lobster for a lobster and sturgeon caviar salad. After working your way through each course, couples sit down to enjoy what they’ve prepared together with a perfectly paired wine.
Instructors are trained chefs who watch over you to ensure that you both enjoy what you’re doing and learn something along the way!
What could be better than learning how to prepare a fine meal with the one you love and then enjoying it together?
Skating at Robson Square
Robson Square is one of the landmark public plazas and civic centres in Vancouver. Home to Vancouver’s provincial court, Robson Square is also the location of the only outdoor ice-skating rink in downtown Vancouver!
Covered by a steel and glass dome, the ice rink becomes a skating rink in the winter season. Imagine skating hand in hand with your sweetie outdoors in beautiful downtown Vancouver to traditional and upbeat music. To make it even more romantic, it’s free!
You can bring your own skates or skate rental is available for just $5. It’s a really magical place to enjoy wintertime in Vancouver.
If you happen to be visiting Vancouver in the summer months, you can still enjoy Robson Square but instead of ice skating, you’ll find free ballroom and salsa dancing lessons. Shake your booty with your sweetie!
Riding Bikes on the Stanley Park Seawall
Stanley Park is one of the best things about Vancouver and one of the main reasons is the 9-kilometre seawall that provides some of the best views Vancouver has to offer.
You can walk around the seawall but it’s much more fun to ride! There are many places to rent a bike near Stanley Park, and you can rent all kinds from cruiser to bike to hybrid.
Most bike rental shops will make sure you and your sweetie are comfortable on the bike and will even give you a map to make sure you know where you’re going.
Don’t miss all the great sights in Stanley Park including Lovers Walk, a beautiful romantic stroll where you will find two trees that appear to be embracing. Stop and have a bite to eat at The Teahouse, where you can enjoy the sights from the beautiful patio. For hiking lovers, head up these Grouse Grind alternatives.
