Known for parties and sunsets, Ibiza is a great summer vacation destination for many. This Ibiza Travel Guide covers where to stay, what to do and more, making planning a trip to Ibiza simple and easy. 

In more recent years, it has seen an influx of families visiting the island, enchanted by the clear sea, beautiful beaches and budget-friendly hotels.

Ibiza offers more than just clubs, pubs and bars. Ibizas’ Old Town is a stunning fort of brick buildings steeped in history whilst the Hippy Market is a popular choice for shoppers and those who love to wander around and look at pretty things.

There are some beautiful and quiet beaches around the coastline of Ibiza as well as some picturesque and romantic restaurant options. Stay in San Antonio to be at the heart of the action or book an apartment a little further along the beach in San Antonio Bay to get the best of both worlds.

Budget: Dorm rooms are uncommon in Ibiza but comfortable private rooms can be found for €25-€35.

Midrange: With a growing number of hotels causing plenty of competition, you can get a 3 star hotel or apartment from €50.

Luxury: Top end, luxury hotels start at €130+ per night whilst villas with private pools can cost between €110 – €300 per night depending on the size of the villa and it’s location.

Transport: A taxi from the airport to San Antonio Bay (on the opposite side of the island) cost us €25 whilst buses around the island cost around €2.

Rental cars cost between €15 – €25 per day with full insurance but compare prices online before arriving to avoid extra charges from the airport rental companies.

Average cost of food:

Many hotels include breakfast in their prices as well as small kitchens with a microwave, fridge and hob to help you cut food costs.

Tapas can be ordered from €3/4 per dish whilst a pint of beer can cost as little as €2. In the West End and San Antonio area, expect to pay around €4-6 for a pint of beer and €6-8 for a glass of wine, with meals costing around €10-15 for a main dish.

Cheaper meals starting at around €6 can be found nearer San Antonio Bay area.

Drinks in popular nightclubs can start at €12 and up to €18 for a mixer. A bottle of Desperados in Eden cost €9 to give you an idea of prices in nightclubs.

Best time to visit Ibiza

For warm weather, the best time to visit Ibiza is between May and October. Party season is in full swing from July to October, with the best DJ’s in the last two months os the season. 

Low season runs from November to April, with some restaurants, bars, clubs and hotels closed. The temperature is much cooler but you can find some great deals at this time. 

If you love swimming in the sea, July and August is the best time for you to visit. The Ibiza Rocks Festival runs in mid-June whilst the Jazz Festival lands at the start of September. 

Where to stay in Ibiza

Budget:

Can Beia Hostal Boutique can be found in the heart of San Antonio, giving you quick and easy access to all the bars, clubs and pubs as well as being in walking distance from the beach. Private rooms start at €34 per night in low season. 

A slightly further walk away from the beach and bars, Hostal Residencia Adelino offer single, twin and 3 bed private rooms from €24 a night, with a swimming pool and a slightly quieter environment.

Midrange:

There are plenty of cool and unique hotels in Ibiza, with many starting at affordable prices for the area. Our top choice has to be the Hotel Apartments Marina Playa, an adult-only apartment located opposite a quieter beach in San Antonio Bay area, just a 15-minute walk to the bars and clubs but surrounded by some lovely restaurants and bars. The rooms are clean and elegantly decorated with sea view balcony rooms starting at €58 per night.

If you prefer to be more central in San Antonio, I would recommend Apartamentos Mar i Vent with luxurious studios starting at €78 per night.

Top End:

THB Ocean Beach Hotel is a great choice for those looking for a romantic and luxurious stay in Ibiza, just a short walk from the beach and bars with double rooms starting at €152.

For a quieter, more secluded stay in Ibiza, head to the stunning Aguas De Ibiza Lifestyle & Spa hotel. The hotel is just 8 minutes from the beach and offers a gorgeous bar terrace, home to the Vi Cool tapas restaurant serving dishes by Michelin-star chef, Sergi Arola. Rooms start at a pricey €309.

For groups or families looking for a relaxing holiday, head to HomeAway to rent some comfortable villas with private pools or splash out and rent one of the many boats that perch on the sea near San Antonio.

Save money in Ibiza

Europe is an expensive continent to travel and Ibiza is certainly no exception. But do not worry, there are ways you can save money on your Ibiza trip. 

• Book in Advance – With most European travel, booking in advance will save you money, so book flights, train, bus and hotel tickets as early as you can. 
• Get lunch from the store – There are supermarkets and stores around Ibiza, so use these for breakfast and lunch. Many hotels in Ibiza include a small kitchenette, so by buying bread and cheese from a store, you can avoid eating out too often. 
• Happy hours – There are many bars and clubs in Ibiza so you can shop around for good deals. Many have happy hours and free shots with your first drink. Also avoid the cocktails – these are considerably more expensive than beer or mixers. 
• Ask the locals – speak with the locals about the best places to eat in order to get the best food and the better prices. 
• Menu del Dia – Download this app to check menu of the day deals, with lunch set menus and a drink costing as little as €10. 
• Book online – Buy tickets for clubs and events in advance, using Ibiza Spotlight or Ibiza Disco Tickets. Many events have an early bird special but you can also avoid disappointment when booking early.
• Sunset on the beach – Watch the beautiful sunset from the beach rather than the bars; drinks are majorly overpriced and the bars are often crowded too. 
• Never use pirate taxis – Ibiza suffers from a pirate taxi scam, with drivers either not licensed, not insured and may even rob you and leave you in the middle of nowhere. 
• Get snorkel gear – There are lots of excursions available for snorkelling but these are costly. We recommend heading further up the coast and trying snorkeling in the quieter waves.

How to get to Ibiza

Fly – Direct flights to Sant Josep Airport are available from many airports across the UK and major cities across Europe. Regular flights are available from Barcelona, Valencia, Mallorca and Alicante.

Boat – When looking at how to get to Ibiza, you may also choose to take the slower (and surprisingly more expensive) route via ferry. Companies such as balearia.com and trasmediterranea.es all offer daily ferries, leaving Barcelona port late at night and arriving in Ibiza around midday. Ferries from Valencia and Alicante are shorter, with some good deals available when booking far in advance or last minute outside of peak season.

How to get around Ibiza

Buses run across the island, costing around €2 depending on the distance.

In the heart of San Antonio, you will find the bus station with routes to all major nightclubs as well as Ibiza’s Old Town.

Taxi’s are fairly priced for Europe, costing €25-30 to and from the airport and under €30 from the nightclubs back to San Antonio. A taxi to the Hippy market costs around €27-€30 whilst a taxi to Ibiza’s Old Town will cost you around €20 – €25.
